Book Lessons? Come Again?

Welcome to the bookish element of my blog. Yes, that basically means book blog, but before you go running back to your internet cat memes out of fear of what will follow on here, I’d like to make a commitment to you: this blog will not be anywhere near as adorable as those cat pictures, but it will be as funny. (No it won’t, but I’ll try to make it half as funny, deal?)

I mean, honestly, who can compete with that?

I mean, honestly, who can compete with that?

My impetus for creating this blog was three-fold: first, I’ve been reading a lot more this year than I did last year, partly because: (second), I work part-time and therefore have a lot of time on my hands (to read and now to write about it), and third, I’m having a half-blown quarter life crisis and am trying to glean meaning from anything I can get my hands on. So this blog is a collection of lessons I’ve taken from each book I’ve read so far this year (and will be reading). My goal is that these lessons will be applicable across the board–not just for me–and that they’ll amuse you or enrich you in some way.

To that end, all comments and criticisms will be welcome, unless you’re criticizing my writing. Really though, the only unwelcome comments would be ones about how you could’ve spent so much more time laughing at cat memes were it not for reading my blog. (To quote SNL’s Pimp Chat: “Don’t playa hate, playa participate,” aka, share the link to the cat meme that’s funnier than my blog, please.)

If you’ve made it this far, you’re either my Mom who’s trying to be nice and support my cute attempt at being a writer, or you’re actually interested in some lessons. Either way, read on!

  1. Cat memes are over-rated. As are deliberately bad spelling and grammar for the sake conformity in a desperate attempt to be funny by proxy. (Oh wait; I just described cat memes again.)
So keep up the good work! My only advice: My friend who was in journalism would refer to “evergreen” articles that would stay fresh if you saved them for a later release. Try to build up a few evergreen blog posts now, while you have the energy and motivation, so when the creative juices aren’t flowing you can still be consistent in your posts.
    Good luck!
